There, I said it...

I just don't like snowsports. not really. Oh, I'll go snowboard a few times a year, I'll even try skate skiing occasionally, but I don't really like it. It is partially about economics of time and cash. I get bored on the lifts, after 2 runs, I get bored on the runs. Skate skiing, well it is like learning to walk everytime I do it, I want to go fast and just can't, until I do, then I fall.

Oh, then people tell me to go AT/Split Board. Cash, like 2k to get into it, add that to a busy work schedule, travel for work, weekend trips to Southern Utah for dirt and the like, well, just not economic enough. Plus you know, death. Yeah death, yeah so I'm scared of dying, so what. I'm sure it is fun, I know it is a good work out, but really, I don't want to, for all the reasons above and more. The most recent reason to top it off is that it has turned into a ME TOO sort of thing, That in and of itself could be enough to keep me away.

I'm like that, contrarian, I can't help it.

Is it "me too" or is that just because there's really something to it? I hope it's a me too thing and everyone decides they hate it. The parking lot at Spruces on Saturday was jammed.

Oh, I'm sure there is something to it, no doubt, but I expect a 20-30% ME TOO rate.

True Dat, I hate the resorts too! I was at Spruces as well on Saturday--it was a zoo. I am a proud 10+ year backcountry skier and I also hope the me too'ers go away. I think facebook is the main motivation for some peoples' activities.

I'm with ya, Bob-o. Two more reasons: too cold on the lifts and those boots suck. Snowshoes and classic xc ski will do it for this girl.

My thoughts exactly. I tried snowshoeing for the first time this weekend and that may be the ticket. Super cheap, no real avalanche threat depending on where you go and I learned how to hike about 30 years ago. But I still wanted the speed of my fat tire bike to come down.

I can only have one sport that I can't really afford so bikes it is, or was at this point.

There's a lot to like in cycling - it has spoiled me. It's OK to not like snow sports, although I don't agree with some of your reasons. This winter has been rough, it's been so cold I can't work up the motivation to even road ride. Thankfully we have southern Utah, but the 4 hour drive is a barrier.

I do a variety of snow sports, none of them well, but it's nice to get out, it improves my mood and I get some exercise.

Do you remember when you were a teenager and loved to try anything new and couldn't understand why older guys wouldn't give it a shot? I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I like a drummer that goes by his own beat. Good for you.
For me the trouble is, there is so much in life that is fun that I can't help myself. I have to admit my winter sin. Powder snowmobiling. It goes against my dislike of motorized recreation and adds to global warming but I CAN'T help it! Beleive it or not it is a good work out too!

I keep thinking I need something to do during the winter and I have to admit I am close to pulling the trigger. Then again I need a new bike and I still have 30 days left on my pass at Snowbird. So I probably fit into that "me too" group.

Skiing has never been a "me too" thing for me. It has been a way to make a living in the most deliciously fun way I can imagine while meeting some interesting people.

Some day, I hope to afford it without having to work.

I agree. There is however one winter sport tha almost anyone can easily participate in.
Drinking.
It's economical, fun, no learning necessary 'cause you already know how to do it, social, multiple venues to imbibe, not too cold if done inside, no equipment costs (other than an occasional cab rider), socially responsible (supports the local economy).
Goodness, I had no idea there were so many PROs to this argument. Gotta go have a drink...
